Wisdom From The Clan Of Cat

Nine paths to walk upon the earth, nine lives to live, beneath the sun.

Nine times to see the sky, and lie upon green grass.

Only then to part the Veil, and make our final Journey.

For so it is remembered, and so it has been sung.

Love that is deep also wounds deeply, for that is its price.

No relict of life may mortal man bear when he takes that last journey, for naught but the naked soul may part the Veil and fare onward.

Things there are, upon the earth and under the sun, that none living can know, and no shade will tell.

Some remembrance can never be forgot, and some hurts are too deep to be healed.

In some humans, the Clans of Cat and Man come near to touching.

The Clan of Man are builders by nature; it is said by my own kind that if a human sees two stones, he will pile one upon the other before he moves from the spot.

One should have four firm, dry places on which to depend: one for each of his paws.

There comes a time when all folk of self respect must say to bullies, “Thus far and no further.“

Boxes have been the exclusive property of cats since the morning of the world. They must give their approval before anything else may be done with them.

Cat is not a builder; we accept the earth as it has been given to us, content to exist as a part of it.

As the Spirit Above decreed in the morning of the world, all nights must see a dawn, and every darkness end.

The young children are always the best, for they love cleanly, intensely, and without condition.

Life is very good indeed, upon the earth and under the sun.

From whence comes courage to the folk of the earth? And which is the greater? Is‘t that which bids one advance, when shields come round, and arrows fly? Or yet the small and terrified soul, lost in the darkness, but fearing death less than to fail of a vow?

Only light can banish darkness, and only life can drive away death.

The Clan of Man are, among all the Clans of the Folk, the most untrustworthy. They are apt to cruelty, and are best avoided.

Where life remains, there is always hope.

The ways of the Spirit Above are mysterious, and not for the folk of the earth to know, but they are good ways.

What is founded on rock will never be toppled by storm.

To love invites the pain of loss, for that is the way of all life.

Those who are given time may bide their time, until opportunities arise.

To live without love is to have never lived at all.

It is often easier to outwit someone from a position of seeming ignorance.

The Clan of Man is gullible, if nothing else.

Sell your life dearly. Do not go down easily, or without drawing blood.

One can tolerate their kind (Man) as long as they show proper deference.

Those unaware they are observed often reveal more than they intend.

Some humans are able to be allies, but never friends. Those too concentrated upon their own ambitions cannot be anyone’s friend.

Power is an uncertain ally, when its own interests are not directly served.

One reaps what one sows, as the Jews of Palestina would say.

Time is a whirlwind of rainbows. It is a coruscating vortex that never stops.

We of the Clan of Cat must have companions, other souls to be near and to love. That is how were were created, in the morning of all things.

Light is too strong to be beaten, when even a single heart holds true.

The Spirit Above is a being of light, and does not forever abide dark shadows and night.

Even the Clan of Man has its shining examples.

Memories have sharp edges, that can tear at the heart.

Every life that is lived, upon the earth and under the sun, is given a song in Avalon.

In the morning of the world, the Spirit Above breathed out the universe, and set upon the earth the Clan of Man, and beside them the Clan of Cat. So it is remembered, and so it has been sung.

Love is life reaching out to life, a touching in the darkness, an awareness that one is not alone.

We each have the gifts we are given. None of them is greater, or of more importance, than any other.

When life changes, it does so swiftly and without warning. There is no going back.

We follow the paths we are given, upon the earth and under the sun. How we walk them, what we make of them, must come from within each one of us.

The darkest corner must yet see light, while the earth is still turning beneath the sun.

Tempt not the sea, for she is vengeful.

To love is the greatest glory to one of my kind, but also brings the greatest pain. One must balance one’s own scales, then accept whatever comes.

There is a courage that allows a living soul in the darkness to trust, to place all that he is in the hands of another being, and that courage is far and away the greater.

To humans the world is a series of small boxes. Every living soul they meet must fit neatly into one, and receive a name which is meaningless, because it indicates the box, and not the soul.

Life with humans can be good, but it is always apt to change without notice. My kind would rather have stability, but that is seldom found, upon the earth and under the sun.

One of the great insanities of humankind is their frantic obsession with belongings, but that is how they have always been.

It is usually better to act on one’s feelings, rather than endlessly talk about them.

Humans are strange creatures, but one learns eventually to ignore them.

Where there are small boys, tails are likely to be pulled without warning.

It is a failing of Humankind, that the adults forget what it was like to be young, or don’t care. They expect small versions of adult behavior, and when their children can’t supply that, they get angry.

One of the best qualities of human children is that they are able to have fun in almost any circumstances. They don’t dwell on dark times, but simply enjoy what rays of sunlight come into their lives.

The climbing of Christmas trees has been the prerogative of the Clan of Cat since the morning of all things.

Once done, upon the earth and under the sun, our actions can neither be altered nor taken back. That is a power not given to the mortal Clans of the Folk.

We of the Clan of Cat do not fail of our vows.

Shame can only be expunged by fresh deeds; better ones, upon the earth and under the sun.

Old and time-hallowed customs were never meant to keep us from caring for one another. They were never meant to make us give up our honor.

It is not given to every creature to be a great-heart. Such as they are rare, upon the earth and under the sun. But if we do the small things we must, even though we fear them, we will hear the Spirit Above name our names alongside theirs, at the end of all things.

From trust born of shared purpose to friendship is but a short step, and from friendship to love is only the blink of an eye.

One who seeks his own comfort and pleasure is common; one whose first thought is always for the betterment of his fellows is sublime.

One alone cannot move the world, yet it still may be moved. Turn not away from what is freely offered.

Those there are, among the living creatures the Spirit Above set upon the earth, who were meant from the beginning to join their lives.

The imagination of a human child is endless; to one of them, all fantasy is real.

The way of a mother is a path strewn with hard choices.

Those who do one kindness may well do another, if given time.

Only the Spirit Above knows why tragedies happen; it has simply always been this way, since the morning of the world.

No fiercer, more fearless creature walks the earth than a she-cat mother whose young are threatened.

The earth turns beneath us and is never still, and we must move with it. Life must be lived as it is given us, upon the earth and under the sun.

Every creature the Spirit Above set upon the earth was given its proper place. Those who find their true place are most fortunate, for they know real purpose in their lives.

With their clever hands the humans made their books, and filled them with their souls. To know them, one need look no further.

My kind can nearly always be won by flattery, if its source is a sincere “cat person.”

When the smallest creature is harmed, all are injured, upon the earth and under the sun.

No matter how exalted the sovereign, it is never amiss to seek the counsel of the old and wise. It is only upon their shoulders that kingdoms and rulers can stand.

Many are the battles won, and lives that have been saved, by the very folk the rest of us have called worthless.

Anyone given trust is also given the power to betray that trust, and that is pain almost beyond bearing.

It is amazing what the folk of the earth will bear and do, in order to maintain the breath of life. Any life at all, no matter how futile, is preferable to the alternative.

Those hurt often enough soon withdraw inside themselves, denying others the opportunity to inflict such pain again.

Without our songs, we would be a folk with no past, destined to leave no mark of our time upon the earth.

Humans, who believe themselves infinitely superior to every other living thing upon the earth, are blind in many important ways.

The knowing of secret things is, after all, what my kind do.

Nobility alone cannot save; in the end, the fates cut down the noble with the common, and the great with the small.

There is also a realm of the Spirit, and that sphere, though unseen by men, is the more real of the two.

The eyes of Cat are bright, and little is concealed from us.

We see what is never suspected by humans, who are easily misled by the veil of appearances.

Freedom within oneself is the greatest liberty that can ever be known, for it cannot be taken away or even touched, by any other person or circumstance.

Those who look for no better way of life never attain it. They receive what they expect from their days upon the earth, and nothing more.

We of the Clan of Cat live our lives as they are given us to live, joyous and free.

To say, “I told you thus!” is to bring down all the wrath of the unfortunate one upon your own head. Silence is a much safer alternative.

Humans are afraid of prophets. One who is correct too many times can be labelled a witch, and the end of that tale is seldom good.

A single human who is afraid can be comforted, but when many are fearful, they are capable of anything.

Age is a foe which can neither be outrun nor outfought.

Some humans oughta keep their clammy hands to themselves, see?

No one is as patient as an offended Cat. Delayed revenge is just as sweet.

No one ever completely gives up all his old ways; your past is always right there beneath the surface, just waiting to bite you the first time you’re careless.

The important thing is to remember the good about people. Let the bad stuff blow away in the wind, and disappear.

When the humans go to war, nothing is resolved, and the earth itself is rent and torn.

The Spirit Above did not create the Clan of Man with the ability to dispassionately take one another’s lives. For such an act, a terrible price must be paid, within one’s self.

To slay another, a kinsman of one’s own kind, is a violation against one’s own spirit, and fouls the heart.

Any great battle-place becomes shadowed, and different. For so many souls to part the Veil and make their final journeys leaves a mark upon the land. It is forevermore filled with their faint, whispering voices, drifting bits of their being that have been left behind.

Human beings are stupid, sometimes. You don’t look around you, and when you do, you don’t really see.

My kind enjoy many senses and powers not possessed by humans, but not even the Clan of Cat may know the future

Speaking of War: It never should have been like that. They’d never had any differences worth that.

Whatever we Cats have done in the sight of the Spirit Above was done with pride, and from love.

Maturity often comes late to the Clan of Man, if it comes at all.

Ill deeds often come from haste: just a moment of time is required for them to be committed, and then they are utterly beyond retrieval.

The wise Kunnang Thai looks and considers before he strikes. Later may be too late.

As every dawn must come at last to dusk, every journey has a beginning, and must also reach its end.

It is sung by my kind that real love is the only part of any living being which can never die, but lingers even when he has departed, a testament to his passing.

When I am gone, grave upon my stone two words: “He loved.” They are all that is required to tell my tale.

Let the humans embroil themselves in strange and shifting customs if they will; the ways of my kind have remained the same since the morning of the world.

Sometimes vigilance alone is not enough, and then only valor can save.

There is no reason behind hate; it destroys until it is destroyed, or is consumed by its own poison.

Can anything good come of a kingdom founded on greed and murder?

The Clan of Man are the most inconsistent and unpredictable of all the creatures the Spirit Above set upon His good green earth. The only dependable quality they possess, is that they change.

Many are those who lament, when the years have fled, and they behold their lives utterly spent, even as they wait for them to begin.

Humans are not all creatures of the Light, but must be individually perceived, each in view of his own merit.

There is a rarity, seldom encountered among the Clan of Man: one whose innermost heart is identical to the person he shows openly to the world.

The Clan of Cat are not betrayers, and nor do we fail of our vows.

The works of the Spirit Above are beautiful; what others build is but a pale reflection of the original glory.

All knowledge is there for the taking, for one who would reach out his hand and own it.

As an unhappy ruler means a dark and fearful land, a joyful one brightens the whole of her realm.

Life is a single leaf, afloat on the surface of the rushing river that is time. It cannot stop for our joys, nor even perceive them; it carries us where it wills.

It is good to be of the Clan of Cat, and none of us would choose to be other than as we were created.

Remembrance is long, for my Clan and my kind. We of the Clan of Cat do not forget those with whom we have shared a life.

We do not question the places ordained for us, but live each day, each summer, each lifetime, as a precious gift.

The Spirit Above is kind; the Spirit Above knows every heart and is the author of all love.

My kind were not created to ignore the pain of others.

To part the Veil and journey onward is a part of every life.

There is a time for fear, but there is also a time to pass beyond it, to put away self, and act for another.

There are shadows everywhere, darkness where it has no business existing. This is not what the Spirit Above intended when he made the world beneath the sun.

From your ealiest days you are taught to fear things and people who are different, but hate and fear are one and the same. One always turns into the other.

Death is the greatest unfairness of all.

What good is a cat with no companion, no one to whom he can give his love? No good at all, for he owns no other purpose upon the earth and under the sun

Without the willingness to suffer in a another’s place, there can be no real love, and love is the only power that can heal the hurting of this world.

Half measures avail nothing, accomplish nothing, are nothing.
